The French Revolution is defined as the political upheaval of world importance that began in France in 1789. Inspired by the success of the American Revolution, French citizens overthrew the noble, ruling class and establish a democratic government. The French monarchy under Louis XVI was viewed as oppressive and corrupt and the social structure was rigid, meaning it did not allow for social mobility which eventually forced the people to demand change.

Even though many men died fighting the wars of freedom it was a success because it they brought the government back to the people.
the enlightenment philosophers helped to change society because they helped to show the citizens that they did not have to follow the government that was being forced on them. philosophers such as john locke and baron de montesque helped to show the people that they had natural rights such as life liberty and property, along with freedom to speech.
